The builders were a superstitious bunch, and very unhappy at digging on ancient remains. And its position was ideal, as the burial mound was pitched at 250m above sea level, giving clear views into South Wales. The new lumps in the landscape, caused by building the bunker, would therefore go unnoticed to all but a keen eye. The location was perfect, being built into the centre of a megalithic barrow.
